Tamesis - a 4-piece neo-psychedelic band and coven from South-East London. Their name has a twofold meaning: it is the Celtic goddess of Spring Water who bore her name to the river Thames, and the proto-Brythonic term for ‘darkness’. Accordingly, their music represents flowing change and the unknown, while their lyrics touch on themes of mysticism, mythology, society, magic, and human nature. With powerful melodies, gripping hooks, and formidable rhythms, Tamesis delight in creating witchy and mercurial psychedelia.
Formed by friends and colleagues from Brighton, Sweden and London, Tamesis launched their self-titled debut EP in early 2020. During the pandemic, they organised the live-streamed ‘post-apocalyptic garden party’, and released a powerful cover of Donovan’s ‘Season of the Witch’. The following year saw the release of ‘Carousel’, an ode to love in the digital age. Tamesis have played alongside the likes of Wax Machine and Cosette Gobat, headlining and performing at venues like The Windmill (Brixton), Prince Albert (Brighton), George Tavern, New Cross Inn, and many more. Tamesis finished 2022 by releasing their newest single, the exotic dance-hit “Into Space”, and a performance on New Year’s Eve alongside the mighty David Bowie tribute band Cats From Japan. They are currently preparing to release their follow-up EP, ‘Magna Mater’, in spring 2023.
